If what has been going on with Lungu’s advisors the past few weeks is anything to go by, then there’s serious internal chaos obtaining at State House.
There seems to be indicators that either the PF President has given his senior handlers carte blanch authority to behave like pregnant mules, or they have gone on a mad directionless drive into the wilderness.
It all started with the State House spokesman Amos Chanda’s ballistic irate press conference which became a study lecture solely on HH and the Commonwealth. The entire occasion was devoted to the most demeaning and slanderous tirade against a fellow citizen whose only offence was to accept a meeting with the International body to tell his side of the story at their request.
With eyes bulging and gesturing his hands like a prize fighter, Amos Chanda treated the press corp to a bizarre theatrical performance not seen at State House for a long time.
Exit Amos Chanda, enter the ever green Emmanuel Mwamba, the reluctant High Commissioner to South Africa who had preferred a Cabinet slot back home.
Mwamba strayed out of his diplomatic realm and went for the throat of the National Union of Metal Workers of South Africa(NUMSA), accusing them of ‘fake news’ (courteous of Donald John Trump), whilst ironically inviting them for a meeting at the High Commission in Pretoria.
Mwamba claimed NUMSA was a fraud and that their statements on the instability in Zambia was a figment of their weird imagination, “but come we discuss it anyway!”. They have since predictably rejected his offer and called it a mockery and immature.
Then came the Parliamentary performance of an elderly MP who is also Minister of Presidential Affairs, Freedom Sikazwe. He initially had a spat with fellow PF MP Chishimba Kambwili but abruptly turned to the UPND Chief Whip, Gary Nkombo hissing at him, “Tongas are dogs!”
As if not to be outdone, Kaiser Zulu a man who is believed to be belonging to Edgar Lungu’s inner circle and is said to be the apple of his eye, got involved in an altercation with the huge and towering CAF West African officials after he attempted to join his President at the medal presentation dias. “Do you know who Iam?”, bellowed Kaiser Zulu. “Oh yes we do” responded the CAF giant, “You are a rogue!” concluded the football security official whilst dragging the exasperated and drunken Kaiser Zulu out of the football pitch. It has also turned out that Lungu’s special advisor also assaulted a female Police Officer.
Now these are not ordinary people like you and me dear reader, these are people that read and interpret Edgar Lungu’s thoughts on matters of governance and policy and thereafter churn them out for public consumption. When they speak, you have a damn good idea what is behind Lungu’s mind. If the irrational behaviour they have exhibited is a representation of their boss’s thoughts, then we are in maningi trouble!
