There are credible reports that the incarcerated UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has been moved to Kabwe Mukobeko Maximum Prison 200 Km north of the Capital Lusaka.
The move goes against the Judge’s orders of keeping him in Lusaka Central Remand Prison near his family and his lawyers. The Kabwe maximum prison is for convicted prisoners including those that are on death row. HH has not been convicted of any offence.
Lusaka has been swirling with rumours the past few weeks of the impending transfer of Hakainde to the Maximum prison to kill his spirit.
Senior PF officials themselves have openly voiced their desire to have the opposition leader moved to the facility “so that he is thoroughly punished for not recognising Edgar Lungu”.
Hakainde has been remanded in custody the past 2 months, for an unbailable offense of treason that carries a maximum penalty of death. He has opted that his case be committed to the High Court for trial in what has clearly turned out as trumped up charges of treason, in one of Zambia’s worst case of miscarriage of justice.
Hichilema was accused of treason after his convoy was ambushed from behind by a sudden appearance of Edgar Lungu’s Presidential fleet, in a narrow bumpy road in the Western Province of Zambia approximately 900 km from Lusaka.
