A few days ago the New Kasanda Market in Kabwe was burnt and the Police say the inferno was caused by an Electrical fault. Property worth K150000 mainly in form of furniture is said to have been burnt to ashes. Central Province PF Minister, his Permanent Secretary, Kabwe Town Clerk and Police Commissioner who rushed to the scene.
In an interview, the Minister and the town clerk complained that the fire could not be put off because Kabwe Municipal Council has no fire fighting vehicle (Fire Tender). However, we are aware that before Stephen Kampyongo was moved from the Ministry of Local Government last year, a tender was advertised for the supply of 41 fire tenders. A number of companies bid and the highest bidder, a company that quoted US 1 million per fire tender was awarded a contract despite a number of bidders crying foul. This company is called Grandview International owned by Bokani Soko, a close associates of Edgar Lungu.
Kabwe Municipal Council was one of the intended beneficiaries. Now if Big bosses in Kabwe say they have no fire tender then where is it? This is the question residents of Kabwe especially those who suffered the loss should be asking the Provincial Minister Mr. Sydney Mushanga. Just last weeek, the PF regime told the country that the fire tenders had been delivered. If Kabwe, a provincial capital was not given a fire tender, then which villages were given? Probably the people of Kabwe should ask the Police Commissioner to open a Police Docket for theft by agent though we know it will just be wasting stationery.
Who can query them? Remember Sylvia Masebo actually reported the corruption surrounding the acqiutsion of fire tenders to the Anti- Opposition Corruption Commission but nothing was done?
